Tip: Remove Close Button from Firefox Tabs
Firefox has meddled around with the close button the tabs quite a lot and something new seems to crop up with every new version of Firefox. But thankfully, Firefox is highly customizable allowing you to modify the browser. The close button on the tabs can be easily customized and we are going to discuss that below.
Step 1 : Open about:config
Open Firefox and in the address bar type “about:config” without the quotes. Firefox will warn you editing the configuration file. Click on “I’ll be careful, I promise!” and proceed.
Step 2 : Filter browser.tabs.closebuttons
In the filter bar type “browser.tabs.closebuttons” without the quotes to bring up the preference name related to tab close button.
Step 3 : Modify value
There are three possible settings you can choose from. These include :
- Default
- No close tab buttons anywhere (You’ll have to use middle click or Ctrl+W)
- Move the close tab button to the right of the tab bar
The integer value is same as the serial number mentioned. So to change it to a particular setting, double click on the preference name and in the Integer value enter the number corresponding to the setting. Press OK to apply. You can now close the about:config tab and continue browsing with the newly placed/removed close tab button.
