How To Disable Balloon Tips in Windows
This tutorial will show you a simple registry trick using which you can disable the annoying little balloon tips that pop up to notify you of events, errors and statuses predefined by Windows. Now these balloon tips are very helpful to newbies but once you have been elevated to a GEEK or PRO USER status, as we are sure most of our readers have, they remain nothing more than a nuisance.
To disable balloon tips in Windows XP,
Procedure:
1. Open the Windows Registry Editor by Start > Run > REGEDIT.
2. Navigate to the following key in the left pane.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
3. In the right pane, create a new DWORD value called EnableBalloonTips and set it’s value to 0.
4. Close the Windows Registry Editor and restart your PC.
5. After the restart, all the balloon tips have been disabled and wouldn’t appear and annoy you unless you enable them again.
To enable them again, just open REGEDIT and navigate to the same key listed above. And change the value of the EnableBalloonTips value to 1.
Note: Disabling balloon tips is not recommended unless you are an advanced user.
