How To Disable Autorun for CD/DVD Drives
Another common nuisance is the default Autorun feature in Windows which detects automatically whenever any external media is inserted and comes up with a dialog to let you choose among some options or tasks you would like to perform using that external media. It seems very helpful at start but as you become a seasoned user, it is more of a nuisance than a convenience. This tutorial aims to show you how to disable / enable the AutoRun feature using a simple registry hack.
To disable the Autorun feature for your CD / DVD ROM,
Procedure:
1. Open the Windows Registry Editor by Start > Run > REGEDIT.
2. Navigate to the following key in the left pane.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom
3. In the right pane, change the value of the DWORD value called AutoRun to 0 by double clicking on it.
4. Close the Windows Registry Editor and restart your PC.
5. To re enable the Autorun dialog everytime you insert any CD / DVD, just change the value of the AutoRun DWORD value to 1.
