How To Disable Creation of Thumbs.db file
If you have enabled viewing of hidden files and folders, then you probably would have noticed the thumbs.db file if you have set the thumbnail preview mode for a folder and it contains pictures or videos. This can get really irritating at times as it automatically gets created in every such folder and also occupies space depending on number of image or video files in that folder.
The purpose of thumbs.db file is to cache the thumbnails that are displayed so that the next time you open the folder to preview the thumbnails, it does not have to recreate them, but just load them from the cached file. If you have a slow PC or huge amounts of image files in a single folder, then it does make sense to allow Windows to create this file.
Windows allows you to disable creation of this file through a simple setting in the control panel. Check out the steps below.
Step 1 : Open Folder Options
Open Control Panel. Find the Folder Options icon and double click to open Folder Options.
Step 2 : Disable thumbnail creation
In the Folder Options dialog box, browse to the View tab. In the view tab, navigate to the advanced settings. There you will find the “Do not cache thumbnails” option. Check it and click OK to save your preferences.
Form now on you wont find the Thumbs.db file being created in every folder.
