Top 7 iPhone Apps
If you own an iPhone, you know how fun it is to try out cool new apps from the App Store. App Store is flooded with thousands of useless applications and one wonders how many flashlight apps we need! But there are some cool and really useful apps too in the App Store with make excellent use of the SDK and bring out the true potential of the iPhone. As the apps continue to evolve, iPhone emerges as a strong competitor to the Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms. You will find below, some of the best iPhone apps:
1. Google Earth
The latest kid on the block, Google Earth app for the iPhone is amazing. Google Earth app is an extension of the popular Google Earth software which shows the topography of any part of the world. Google has enhanced it and ported it to the iPhone. The app displays the 3D view o the Earth and you can zoom into any part of the world by either reverse pinching or double tapping. You can search for any place on Earth and it will virtually take you to that place! Wikipedia is also integrated into the app and when enabled, it shows information from Wikipedia about a place. It adjusts the view using the accelerometer and also can locate you via GPS. Overall a great app and available FREE!

2. Remote
The Remote app by Apple itself is very handy as it lets you control iTunes or Apple TV from your iPhone via Wi-Fi. The app connects to iTunes/Apple TV using a passcode which is generated randomly every time you try to connect. You can control over iTunes by letting you play/pause songs, movies, podcasts ,view playlists and also view the album art of the song that is playing. The app integrates will Apple TV also brilliantly and you have full control over the device through your iPhone. Excellent app if you use iTunes as your favorite music player, which you probably would if you own an iPhone/iPod Touch.

3. Air Sharing
Air Sharing app lets you transfer files from your PC/Mac onto the iPhone via Wi-Fi. The beauty of this app is that no software is required in this process. Both the iPhone and your computer need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. The iPhone can be added as a network device and copy paste mechanism can be used to transfer the files. And it does not end there, apart from using your iPhone as a storage device, you can also view files via the app! The app supports loads of formats such as iWork, PDF, HTML, RTF, RTFD, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Plain text, Source code and even movie, audio and image formats supported on iPhone.

4. BeejiveIM
There have hardly been any good instant messaging apps on the App Store. Palringo was the first to implement it but it required you to have a Palringo account too. Beejive has come up with an great app for the same and it is a full fledged instant messaging solution for your iPhone. It supports AIM/MobileMe, MSN, MySpace, ICQ, Yahoo, Google Talk and Jabber. You can connect to multiple protocols at the same time. The interface is excellent and chatting with multiple people is a breeze as you can switch chat windows very quickly. it also has landscape mode i you prefer that and can also mail you the chat to your email ID. The app does have its issues such as it sucks up battery fast and is also slow at times but as it is the initial version, it will improve with time.

5. Real Soccer 2009
Real Soccer 2009 is my favorite game on iPhone, not because I am a soccer fan but due to the wonderfully crafted app. There have been loads of other games that have flooded the App Store, but Real Soccer 2009 has caught my fancy. The game apart from having a fantastic gameplay has large number of teams and game modes to choose from. There are all major trophies and leagues. Talking about the gameplay, it makes use of multi touch to control the movement with a virtual D-pad and pass/shoot with two other buttons. It even uses accelerometer when you throw-in the ball. It is easy, normal and hard levels which you can set for each game/league. I would suggest this over Asphalt 4 and Super Monkey Ball.

6. Things
Things is a task manager app which gets your things done. The best part about the app is its synchronization with the Mac. The application has well marked out categories in which you can organise your task. The app has an interface which is clean and well organised. At the top you will find that contains all the tasks you have set up. At the bottom you will find the tasks sorted according to date. There is a separate category of Projects which can be thought as highly important tasks. ToDo is a competitor app but I prefer Things over it due to its simple but powerful interface. An app you must have if you need to get things done fast!

7. Evernote
Evernote is another must have app on your iPhone especially if you need to take down notes frequently. The notes app bundled by Apple in the firmware itself is plain and hardly offers any features. Evernote comes to the rescue with this wonderful app. It lets you create and edit notes on the fly. So what makes Evernote special? Evernote is made special by the Evernote service which lets you synchronize your notes across all platforms, be it your desktop, your iPhone or the web. Evernote service has both free and premium versions with premium version having enhanced storage and higher limits. Evernote also has image recognition which recognises images you take and labels them accordingly. And if that wasn’t enough, it also uses the inbuilt GPS on the iPhone to geotag your memories. The application is available FREE on the App Store.

Very good reviews. I have been really thinking about “Things” recently and need to try it out.
Evernote is great and we just did an integration with it and Pelotonics. Now you can take a voice note in Evernote and then create a task from that automatically in Pelotonics. We are looking for other integration opportunities and a personal task manager would be great.
